M&D Distributors

M&D Distributors was started in the middle of WWII to repair and rebuild fuel system components for ships and locomotives near the Houston Ship Channel. Originally owned by several family members including current owner Bruce Ingram Jr.’s father, the company ownership was consolidated during the 1990s. Bruce has worked at M&D for over 50 years and is still very involved with the business and puts in full days at the original location on Navigation Blvd. in Houston. Bruce is joined by his son Trey and daughter Deborah to comprise the ownership team. Trey also currently serves as president.

In 1983, M&D Distributors moved their fuel shop to the north part of town and in 2000 built a completely new 25,000 sq. ft. facility that now houses their HPCR and high-volume production, along with the traditional fuel shop. In the mid-2000s, they also built new facilities in Dallas and San Antonio, upgrading both locations and tripling the size of each. Shreveport was added in January of 2014, bringing the number of locations to eight.

In December of 2013, they opened a modern 68,000 sq. ft. facility that now serves as the corporate headquarters and distribution center. The Navigation Blvd. location remains open and serves as the turbocharger repair and remanufacturing facility, core warehouse and operates as a retail location serving customers in southeast Houston.

Over the years, the company has weathered a few downturns in the Houston economy, most notably the oil crash in the 1980s. Through the latest recession M&D felt fortunate to be based in Texas during the this time. Having seven locations in the state, including Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, combined with the decisions not to reduce inventory or personnel, kept them from being impacted as much as other areas and industries.

In the earliest days of the company M&D Distributors felt it was important that all of their locations be “full service.” To them, this means having fully authorized fuel shops, trained technicians, inside and outside sales people, and plenty of inventory at each of the locations. In addition, their product diversification into turbochargers, internal engine parts and engine filtration has provided their customers with a true “one-stop-shop” for their Diesel repair needs.

This past year business has been good, and they closed our books on a record year and are looking forward to more growth in the future. This current growth mode has been in part due to their investments in facilities, new locations and new technology. This has helped position the company to take advantage of the growing Diesel market.

Through the years of constantly changing technology, M&D Distributors has transitioned from traditional mechanical fuel systems to electronic pumps and now to high pressure common rail systems allowing them to take advantage of their experience and OE relationships in a way that few competitors can. Their knowledge of these systems has given them a tremendous edge with their customers. M&D Distributors has also worked to invest heavily in the new technologies to make sure they have the capability and capacity to service the needs of their customers and their territory.

They have also stayed on the leading edge of training. Ensuring their techs attend factory classes and continually educate and work with their people to make sure they are current on the latest OE

That base also helps them attract and train talented people for the future.

As a charter member of ADS, M&D Distributors understands the value in the association. They have, developed many lasting relationships that go back decades and generations through ADS. Many of their associates are true, personal friends and the value of this is immeasurable.

The ADS convention and Tradeshow has always served as a focal point for the company. It also allows them the chance to see the company’s commitment to the OE partners and distribution channels that are so critical to their business.
