Shop Talk: Tech Tips from a Lifetime Under the Hood…
A Ford 6.4L 2008 truck arrived at M&D to have a diagnostics test run for the following:
- Check engine light
- De-rate wrench warming light
- Extremely low engine power
- Plugged diesel particulate filter (DPF)
- Plugged diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC)
History provided by other repair facility:
- Overhauled the engine in house due to engine overheating
- Replaced the turbos due to oil leaking out of the exhaust after the first drive
- DOC and DPF removed and cleaned twice
- Check engine light was always on
- De-rate warning wrench light was always on
- Plugged exhaust
- Reduced engine power
The repair facility that M&D received the truck from had overhauled the engine but could not release it to the customer due to the problems that the truck was experiencing.
