2007 Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel

Shop Talk: Tech Tips from a Lifetime Under the Hood…

Problem:

Engine idles normally but misfires and smokes on cylinder 2-4-6-8 as RPMs increase.

Actions:

Pulled injectors, suspecting leaking o-rings, but no issue found. Checked for air leaks in fuel return system, but no issue found.

Removed exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve and discovered that it wasn’t seated properly and would not close completely. Replaced with new valve, and cylinder 2-4-6-8 resumed normal operation.

Tip:

A fault / leaking exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve can affect only one bank on the 6.0L Ford.
