2008 Ford 6.4L Power Stroke – No DTC Codes

Shop Talk: Tech Tips from a Lifetime Under the Hood…

Customer Complaint:

Fuel mileage under 10 MPG and the engine going into exhaust regeneration-exhaust cleaning required every 40 to 60 miles.

The customer kept a log book in the truck and documented every time the exhaust cleaning lamp came on. The truck was averaging exhaust cleaning every 40 to 60 miles. The customer was frustrated with the Ford Dealer and brought the truck to M&D for an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve replacement. When we moved the EGR valve, we found that the EGR valve was not completely closed. This can be seen in the below PDF pictures. We replaced the EGR valve and confirmed the ECM had the latest ECM flash.

The customer picked up the truck and called me after he drove the truck for 100 miles to confirm the repairs. He also called one week later to report that everything was normal and his fuel mileage had increased to normal.
